"give us this day, our daily bread"...5

                                                         The Spirit-Life Coach
Premised on the principles of faith and Divine provisions as seen in the Sabbath Days we intend to launch into the deep as it relates to our rest in the God who is more than enough for our needs. We look into His heart full of love for us and into His hands full of works done to meet our needs. For He said “touch my hands and see the holes in there”. The holes came because He would provide for us…because of this we can look to Him and say…’give us this day, our daily bread’…and then go rest…knowing that those hands have gone to work…on our behalf.

'GIVE US THIS DAY,OUR DAILY BREAD..'!..5

Exo 16:15  And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.
Exo 16:16  This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.
Exo 16:17  And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.
Exo 16:18  And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.

The Lord gave them manna. The Lord rained it down upon them from heaven. He also gave them the rules bordering on this divine provision “Let everyone take just what is enough for him or her according to their families”. In other words Jehovah told them not to gather for storage. They were specifically commanded not to leave of it until the next day.

Here we see once more the will of God relating to our financial prosperity and the supply of our needs. It’s always one issue per-time. We see the Lord here seeking to destroy one of the firmest bases for poverty in our lives. It is the stronghold which spells s.c.a.r.c.i.t.y. The mentality of scarcity is the real demon behind the love of money. It is the reason why leaders steal. It is the reason why workers are dishonest to their bosses and to the companies they work for. It is the reason why armed robbers kill and deprive people of their possessions. All men have this mindset that what is most needed is never enough to go round, so we all scramble for the “scarce resources”.

Even when it goes round sometimes, we still secretly nurse the fear that ‘it will soon finish’. So we plan to hide away as much as we can! Some hide so much that what they have hidden away may last for two or three generations. That was the stronghold that took hold of Achan’s mind. He hid away some of the treasures of Jericho but that action eventually destroyed him and his family.

God does not want His children to be bound by this enemy of man. God is a large God who gives us all things freely to enjoy. He is an abundant God who gives us all and what we need. His own economy is built on the reality of His abundant provisions while the economy of man in every nation of the world is built on the management “of scarce resources”.

The concept of the management of scarce resources is one of the reasons we have poor and rich fellows in society.  God wants us to basically look on Him for our sustenance and to be satisfied with what He gives. But when our fears get in the way and we begin to do a lot of things in order to help ourselves out we end up making a mess of God’s plan for our lives. (Please note that I’m not here saying believers should not work but must stay in their homes waiting for manna from heaven, kindly follow the teachings through please).

Now, what God wants to do is for us to face our fears. You don’t overcome when you don’t face your fears. Life arranges the needs but God requires us for us to do contrary to what the sons of this world would do so that He could meet our needs. He wants us to trust Him without reservations.

If we must overcome lack and poverty we must confront our fears of poverty. The richest man is not one who has billions in his bank account, the richest man is one who has God as His banker and one who cashes out currency from the vaults of heaven.

The truth is that when the Lord returns, He is going to change the foundations of human knowledge which governs the human society today. The principles of personal, national and international economics will be totally altered. This is why I believe the Lord wants us to begin to learn the principle of depending on the Lord and being care-free about tomorrow.

The Lord says not to worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will take care of the things of itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.

We shall not just jump into the millennium. The church will walk with God until we come into the millennium of Christ. The BRIDE MUST MAKE HERSELF READY, then Jesus Christ will come. He won’t come before we are ready, He will come at the instance of our readiness.. One of the ways in which we make ourselves ready is by overcoming the fear of poverty. It is by overcoming the fear of scarcity.

When man fell, he came into duality. The concept of duality invaded the mind and spirit of man and the world. The concept of duality allowed for no absolutes based on the Divine command and desires. The governance of man became fashioned by what he thought out to be good or to be evil. It must be of man. It must be good to us if it must be good at all.

That has been the basis of our education from birth till death. Scarcity and its management has been one of the results of our thinking. Our cunning or wise thinking is known as philosophy. The title PhD means Doctor of Philosophy. This title is given to men who give themselves to research and who think on the problems of the human society and who proffer solutions to them. They are our best minds in all areas of human endeavor.  They were the ones who established and institutionalised the concept of scarcity of resources into the consciousness of the human society. they were not the ones who originated it, but they made it into a religion.

As fallen men themselves they are controlled by the passions and limitations of all men. The best result they may get is one which is primary to all men who hold the nature of fallen Adam. They cannot see behind the veil. They cannot understand the principles of our Kingdom. The best they can do is dress the corpse and perfume its body, they cannot give life. They do not have life.

God does not want us to be governed by these reasoning of men. “Look at the grass of the field, I tell you even Solomon is not as well clothed as even one of them. Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow nor reap, neither do they store anything up for tomorrow and yet your heavenly Father provides for them. Are you not worth much more than these?....why then do you take thoughts in your hearts saying; what shall we eat and what shall we drink and how are we going to get clothed”? If that’s what we indulge in, the Lord calls us persons of little faith.

Daily Manna

While it is true that we may grow beyond having to depend on God for the daily bread literally, it is nonetheless also true that we will always need the Lord to meet our needs. I believe this is why the Lord is has lead us to define ‘day’ with graduated meanings. This is because our needs will rise in the quantity of cash or financial resources that it will take to meet them as we grow in the Kingdom. For example the weight of my needs have grown some since I was twenty years Old. But the word remains the same; always there to tell me that God is able and ever ready to meet me at the point of those needs.

In other words whether we are trusting God to provide for the literal daily bread or for money to pay up on our mortgages or for money to get land and build our own homes or yet for private jets to meet the needs of our business or the ministry, it is still the Lord that we have to look up to for our supplies.

We never outgrow our need for Him especially if we are walking with Him.

In the wilderness they had a problem with the literal provision of food on the table! Many believers in Nigeria fall into that category today. Even people who actually have gone past that phase sometimes find themselves and their families confronted with hunger. Have you ever found yourself in the place where you seem to say…’except the Lord really provides today we are not sure to have food to fill our stomachs in this house’? I have.

And it is good for us to know how to trust God for those situations. In the beginning of my walk with God I would really fret about that. But then I began to learn when I saw how God proved Himself to me as the one who is always there.

Like I said in the beginning I faltered and fell, but then when I began to learn firstly; what God wanted to achieve by allowing me to pass through those situations and secondly how He works to meet those needs I began to overcome in those areas. Then I also began to transfer those basic principles to other areas of needs. This is the point I still am and that I am still growing in.

Let’s take some time to look into the word and see how we may overcome.

Exo 16:2  And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:
Exo 16:3  And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
Exo 16:4  Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Exo 16:5  And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.
Exo 16:6  And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:

Israel murmured against the Lord. God promised to provide food for them. I hope you have overcome on murmuring and blaming the Lord for your trials and adverse situations? You just have got because that’s the first hurdle. But then the sin of murmuring is not what we are focusing upon here. It’s still good for you to know anyway that you won’t overcome much in this area until you have learnt to stop murmuring and blaming the Lord or others for your challenges.

Strange provisions!

How did the Lord promise to provide for them? By raining bread down from heaven! Strange isn’t it?! It’s strange because we are not used to it. Whatever we have had all our lives have either come from the ground or come from our sides. The ground represents the fruit of our labours while our sides represent that which comes to us from man. We are not used to heaven’s bread my brother! Among other things this is also because we are going to be at the mercy of God! We are going to be waiting on Him. We didn’t grow up this way…I mean we were not brought up in this way!

I’m sure someone is thinking ‘well, I earn a good salary, why in the world am I going to ever depend on manna from heaven’. You know what? If we are really walking with the Lord we are not only going to need manna from heaven, we are going to be sustained by it at one point or the other in relation to the provision of our daily needs. Even those of us who come from privileged backgrounds will have to learn the basics of daily provisions. The Holy Spirit knows how to do the teaching. He will teach and take us by the hand to train us.

The Lord’s yoke makes us need the manna!
Just like the Lord took them into the wilderness so did the Father also lead the Christ into the wilderness and just like Christ was led so are we also going to be led into the wilderness. Even when we are in our promised Land sometimes you may find that you have given out so much to those who are needy around you that you will have to look up for your own redemption from the Lord.

There may be times when God’s work in your hand and around you will demand so much from your purse that you may have to depend on God for your own sustenance. Relatives and other believers may be so much in need that you are compelled to share your own resources with them.

These things happen.

It is the yoke of the Lord! And He says His yoke is easy and His burden is light. That means He will be on hand to catch us when we get to that point. Those who do not know the Lord will never yield to this yoke.

We shall see the principles of the manna in the next edition.

"give us this day...our daily bread"...3

'GIVE US THIS DAY,OUR DAILY BREAD..'!..3

                                                                                            The definition of the ‘day’
We have been working on the premise that the Lord wants us to look to the Father concerning our needs. Jesus said that we should pray to the Father to give us this day our daily bread.

When He said this He had graduated meanings of the word 'day' in mind. He had more than the 24hour day in mind. If these were not so our building projects, school fees for our children and other important issues in our lives that would require financial commitments spanning further than the 24hour need would not be covered by the Lord’s prayer!

Having said that we must know that basically, the principles of the Lord’s Prayer underscores contentment and faith and dependence on the loving heart of the Father to provide for us. He is the God that knows us and knows that we have need of these things. That whether the need is for the 24 hour day or one that stretches beyond that, the Lord will provide for us and meet them all the same.

The twenty-four hour day
“And the evening and the morning were the first day”
                                                Gen 1 :5
“And the evening and the morning were the second day”.
                                                Gen 1:8
“And the evening and the morning were the third day”
                                                Gen 1:13
From the verses above we can see that the first definition of the day is the 24 hour period. The 24 hour period consists of night and day. The new day started after sunset in the ancient Hebrew world. In modern times we start the new day in the morning, that is, at dawn.

The seasonal day

The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.
For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:”

                                                Isa 2:11

“And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious”.
                                                Isa 11:10
This is another type of day that goes beyond the 24 hour day. The passage in Isaiah 2:11 talks about the day of the Lord. The Day of the Lord is a prophetic time frame when the Lord Himself begins to judge the earth and cleanse His church in preparation for His coming and reigning over the Kingdoms of this world.

The passage in Isaiah 11:10 speaks of the first coming of the Lord Jesus and His ministry in the earth.

These two time schedules have no time or hourly frame or weekly duration to them, even if it does, we know it more appropriately relates to a time frame when certain things on the divine agenda ought to have been accomplished. In other words there are needs in our lives that do not relate to time but which relates to certain seasons and periods when certain things on the divine agenda in our lives must have been done.
With this definition we can already see that a day could stretch more than the 24 hour day.

For example a wedding period is a time frame of which the planning and ceremonies last longer than the 24 hour daily need; there would be so many mouths to feed than our day to day requirement. A season of building construction; may be of a church or of our own houses is also another good example. The entire family may want to travel after a year’s hard work; that stretches more than the  hour day. All of these are covered in the prayer of Jesus.

A thousand years!

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day”.
                                                            2Pe 3:8
Of course we know that none of us would live for a thousand years, that will have to wait until the millennium! But then this passage underscores the point that in the omnipotence of God, a day is just like a thousand years. He can take care of the needs of a day as well as those of a thousand years if that’s what our situation requires.

For however long the need may stretch we know that the Lord can handle the issue. Most importantly He will want us to depend on Him. Whatever the case may be with us, the message of Jesus must not be lost on us; the Lord is really saying; "one day at a time"; "One issue at a time". Even where it stretches beyond the twenty-four hour need, do not begin to wonder and worry and say, "now I have a land, how in the world am I going to get money to raise the building on it? And even after I have raised the building how on earth am I going to get it furnished with every home requirements"!

Sufficient for the day or for the season or for the hour is the evil thereof.
